Provided in the present application are a method for determining a bearer type, and a communication device, allowing an SN to reasonably determine a bearer type for QoS or DRB, thus improving data transmission efficiency. Specifically, for a QoS flow established in an SN by a corresponding SDAP instance or a DRB established in an SN by a corresponding PDCP instance, the SN is able to determine the bearer type for the QoS flow or the DRB on the basis of whether or not auxiliary information is comprised in a first message sent by an MN.
