A method for controlling an air conditioner. The method comprises: determining a sleep factor type corresponding to a target user, and obtaining target detection information matching the sleep factor type; determining sleep requirement information of the target user according to the target detection information; and determining a target operation manner of a sleep mode according to the sleep requirement information. The sleep requirement information of the target user is determined according to the acquired target detection information; the regulation requirements of different users on the environment during sleeping can be distinguished, so that the sleep mode determined according to the regulation requirements can better meet the environment comfort requirements of the target user in a sleep state, and a same air conditioner can meet the comfort requirements of users having different sleep requirements for the indoor environment during sleeping. Thus, the use experience of the users on the sleep mode of the air conditioner is effectively improved.
