The present embodiment relates to a method and device for inputting an equation. The present embodiment provides an equation input device comprising: a learning situation recognizing unit which extracts learning situation information on a learner provided with learning content; a necessary equation group extraction unit which generates a necessary equation group including necessary mathematical symbols extracted according to the learning situation information; and an expected equation providing unit which selects expected mathematical symbols related to information inputted or selected by a user from the necessary equation group and reflects an equation selected from the expected mathematical symbols to the inputted or selected information. According to the present embodiment, a user can select one of related mathematical symbols to input an equation without searching the whole curricular mathematical symbols for a particular symbol.
