Abstract:

A method of making hollow blanks by electroslag remelting consists in heating, before the beginning of the remelting, an internal crystallizer (4) and a bottom plate (5) and carrying out the process of remelting without cooling the crystallizers (3 and 4), up to obtaining a bimetallic hollow blank of the height equal to 0.7 to 0.9 of the height of the external crystallizer. A device for the implementation of the method is provided with elements (14) for maintaining permanent gaps between the crystallizers (3 and 4), contacting with the inner surface of the external crystallizer (3) and located along the perimeter of the internal crystallizer (4).
