The stored states of various food articles having their consume-by dates are monitored and managed while the food items are stored in a refrigerator. Various food items are displayed on a liquid crystal display unit (105). A food item to be actually stored is selected from the displayed food items through input means (202) and food item selection control means (205). The consume-by date of the selected food article is set referring to a calendar through the input means (202) and consume-by date setting control means (209). On the basis of the preset consume-by date data, the preset food item data, and the current date-and-time data determined by a time measuring section (109), the stored states of the food articles are calculated by food stored state calculating means (214). The stored states of the food are displayed according to the results of the calculation on the liquid crystal display unit (105) by food stock display control means (215).
