Abstract:

A method and a device for press-fitting, into a storage outer tube, a ceramic catalyst carrier having a non-expansion mat wrapped therearound. The method comprises the steps of compressingly molding the outline of the non-expansion mat (7) near the inner diameter of the storage outer tube (8) forming a part of an exhaust passage by uniformly pressing the entire outer peripheral surface of the non-expansion mat in the radial direction by a compressingly molding tool (2) and press-fitting the ceramic catalyst carrier (6) having the non-expansion mat (7) installed on the outer periphery thereof into the storage outer tube (8) by a press-fitting means (3).
