Abstract:
A method is developed for driving an ac plasma display panel (ACPDP), providing upgraded performance characteristics of the display, specifically, high efficiency, extra high brightness and low working potential difference in an easy-of-design inexpensive technical solution. The method involves application of high-frequency sustaining voltage to the PDP cells electrodes such that the amplitude of electron oscillations in a discharge is smaller than the discharge gap. This technique allows to maintain a high-frequency low-loss quasistationary discharge in the ACPDP cells, which ensures high efficiency and extra high brightness of the display and allows to use low-amplitude extinguishing pulses, the amplitude value being determined by the criterion of plasma decay in gas, for a selective turn-off of cells.
