Abstract:
A method for driving a piezoelectric ink jet head in which print speed of a line type ink jet printer can be raised furthermore without deteriorating the image quality of a forming image and without complicating a drive circuit. A line type ink jet printer employing such driving method is also provided. In the driving method, an interval for applying drive voltage pulses to the piezoelectric deformation region of a piezoelectric actuator is set such that a plurality of ink drops ejected from a nozzle in order to form one dot are not united during flight before arriving at the surface of a sheet (18) in the way of conveyance, and all ink drops arrive at points (20, 21) in an imaginary circle (19) of one dot formed on the surface of the sheet (18). In order to drive the piezoelectric deformation region by such driving method, the ink jet printer is provided with a control unit for controlling a drive voltage outputted from the drive circuit and applied to the piezoelectric deformation region.
