Abstract:
The frequencies of occurrence of the entire items of image information to be encoded are determined. Short code words out of the code words corresponding to the leaves of a binary tree having a prefixed structure are allocated to the items of the image information having high frequencies up to a predetermined order in descending frequency order. For the remaining items, an identifier having a pattern which is not coincident with any of the combinations of the code words is added to the start position of each item of the image information, and the items are used as code words allocated to the image information. Thus, a method for encoding image information by which decoding is easily performed by hardware is provided.
