Description:
Method of Fabricating Decorative Products and the Multi layered Substrate for the Implementation of the Method

This invention relates to decorative and applied creativity, more specifically, to methods of fabricating decorative and artistic products used for the decoration of interiors, for example, those fabricated during artistic creativity.

Known is (RU Patent 2170672) multilayered material comprising stacked woven layers interconnected to form a set of woven fabrics. Said set comprises randomly distributed areas of pile from the free ends of the threads forming the substrate of the product and the weft of each woven layer that have variable lengths, and/or variable shape of the cross-section, and/or variable size of said section, and are pulled towards each other from one layer to another and interconnected to provide for said joining of abovementioned layers.

Disadvantage of said known multilayered material is its inapplicability for the production of drawings thereupon with water and alcohol soluble paints; furthermore, for using the material as a substrate for decorative or applied products said material should be connected to the carrying base.

Known is (RU Patent 2318935) multilayered material comprising at least two layers made from threads, preferably, pile threads, with a preset pattern of thread weaving within the layer, wherein the layers are shifted with respect to each other to form an angle between the adjacent threads across the section of the material and interconnected by needle-punching, further wherein said layers have different thread thicknesses and textures and are interconnected by needle-punching from one and/or two sides, the angle between the adjacent threads across the section of the material being 1 -90°.

Said known material is neither suitable for the production of drawings thereupon with water and alcohol soluble paints; furthermore, for using the material as a substrate for decorative or applied items said material should be connected to the carrying base.

The closest counterpart of the technical solution provided herein can be considered (RU Patent 1831529) multilayered material comprising stacked woven layers interconnected to form a set of woven fabrics. The layers of said known fabric are interconnected in an interrupted and interchanging manner in the direction of the main and weft threads to form closed multifaceted void cells that in turn form vertical layers. Between said cells, intersecting through channels are formed along the main and weft threads.

Said known material is neither suitable for the production of drawings thereupon with water and alcohol soluble paints; furthermore, for using the material as a substrate for decorative or applied items said material should be connected to the carrying base. Known is (http://magok.ru/detail/7861 5) a painted decorative carpet that is fabricated by felt-pen painting on a flocked substrate with an outline design.

Disadvantage of said known method is the use of a soft substrate that does not allow securing the piece during painting and therefore requires the blank piece be additionally secured on a hard surface allowing painting the blank piece outline with a felt-pen.

The object of the technical solution provided herein is to simplify the decorative carpet technology with simultaneous improvement of its decorative effect.

It is suggested to achieve the abovementioned objective using the decorative product fabrication method provided herein. In accordance with said method, the carpet blank piece which is flocked fabric with an outline design is painted, the paints are further dried, wherein said flocked fabric is glued to a substrate in the form of a single two- layered structure comprising two interconnected layers further wherein the first layer is made from synthetic or natural fabric, the second layer is a latex plate glued to a layer made from synthetic or natural fabric to form an elastic glue layer, and said synthetic flocked fabric is glued to the other side of said latex plate to form an elastic layer.

As said above, disadvantages of the prototype methods were the necessity of using a hard substrate placed under the blank piece during panting of the outline design and the necessity of using a substrate when placing the final piece on a wall or on a table. The use of the three-layered structure provided herein comprising sequentially stacked flocked fabric, latex plate and synthetic or natural fabric layer interconnected using elastic glue layers provides, first, stretching the flocked fabric during felt-pen panting on the outline design and, secondly, comfortable placement of the final piece without the necessity of using any additional holding devices. The use of elastic glue layers in combination with said latex (polymer) plate carrying the flocked fabric layer with the outline of the target drawing provides for further protection of the final piece due to an increase in its mechanical strength and elasticity.

To achieve a greater decorative effect of the final piece, the carpet substrate can be additionally overcast with a wool thread around its perimeter and/or provided with fringe at least at two sides.

It is suggested to achieve the abovementioned objective using the multilayered plate for decorative or applied items the design of which is provided herein. Said plate is a single multilayered structure comprising three interconnected layers wherein the first layer is made from synthetic or natural fabric, the second layer is a latex plate glued to a layer made from synthetic or natural fabric to form an elastic glue layer and the third layer is synthetic hydrophilic flocked fabric glued to said second layer to form an elastic glue layer, wherein the flocked face of said third layer faces outwards.

As said above, the material provided herein comprises three layers. The bottom layer is the substrate of the structure. It is made from synthetic or natural fabric. Its main function is to protect the middle layer from mechanical damage. Said bottom layer can be provided with devices for attaching the final piece to a wall. The thickness of said layer depends on the usage conditions the multilayered material is intended for and may vary over a relatively wide range. For example, for fabricating decorative or applied items or using the material within a set for children's creativity the preferable thickness of the layer is 0.1 -0.2 mm.

The second (intermediate) layer is a plate made from polymer materials, preferably, latexes. This elastic bulk layer provides the entire structure with volume and elasticity. This layer is the substrate of the structure and provides for its creasing resistance. In a preferred embodiment, the thickness of said layer is 1 .5-4 mm.

The third layer is synthetic hydrophilic flocked fabric (fabric the face side of which is specially treated by flocking). This treatment provides the effect of a velvet, piled surface of the entire material due to the minor piles forming on the fabric surface as a result of flocking. The textured layer is also glued to the intermediate layer. Its thickness taking into account the flocked surface is 0.3-0.5 mm. The textured layer can additionally have the outline design of the target carpet or panel.

The three layers are interconnected through the middle layer by gluing to form elastic glue layers and provide a single monolithic structure. The resultant plate has, on the one side, elasticity due to the use of three layers made from elastic materials (two fabric layers and one polymer plate) and two elastic layers (preferably, due to the use PVA glue or Moment glue), but, on the other hand, is creasing resistant due to the use of the polymer plate. The polymer plate is protected at two sides by fabric layers (as well as by glue layers) from mechanical damage and sunlight. The use of the third hydrophilic layer (the textured layer), along with the protection of the intermediate layer, allows using hydrophilic materials (water and alcohol soluble paints and glues) for making artistic decorative products.

The use of gluing makes the process much more workable that weaving because it does not require complex equipment e.g. weaver looms that in turn require special working skills and a large number of service personnel. Thus, the use of the gluing technology instead of weaving significantly simplifies the fabrication of the plate and at least preserves its consumer characteristics.

The basic implementation of the method is as follows.

The children's creativity set "Decorative Carpet" comprises a plate that in turn comprises a 0.15 mm thick woven layer, a 3.0 mm thick latex plate and 0.4 mm thick flocked layer, wherein said flocked layer has the drawing of the decorative carpet in the form of geometrical figures or a story picture or a decorative ornament. The drawing is applied onto the carpet blank piece initially as a single- color (preferably black) outline with acrylic/synthetic paints. After drying the paint impregnates the top layer and forms a barrier between the elements of the drawing. Furthermore, the set comprises felt-pens (12 pieces with water soluble paints), a detailed stepwise manual and a colored prototype drawing of the target decorative carpet. Painting of the flocked surface with water-base felt-pens provides a visibly spatial, 'deep' image. This effect is accounted for by the complete painting of the minor surface piles with the felt-pen ink. The specific properties of the material provide for the mixing of different colors directly on the surface of the material and produce the unparalleled 'color transition' effect. The preliminarily applied outline design additionally functions as a barrier preventing the leaking and mixing of different paints between different elements of the drawing.

The carpet substrate can be overcast with a wool thread around the perimeter; some models also comprise fringe at two sides that makes the carpet look complete.
