Abstract:
To form a linear groove having a desired groove width on a metal strip surface and, as a result, provide a grain-oriented electromagnetic steel sheet having extremely exceptional magnetic characteristics. A groove formation method in which a resist film is formed on at least one side of a metal strip, the resist film is subsequently irradiated with a laser while scanning in a direction that crosses the rolling direction of the metal strip to remove the resist film at the portion irradiated by the laser, and the portion of the metal strip from which the resist film has been removed is then etched to form a linear groove, wherein the resist film contains 20 mass% or more of inorganic compounds in terms of solids content, the laser has an elliptical beam shape in which the ratio of the major axis diameter to the minor axis diameter is 5.0 or higher on the metal strip surface, and the beam diameter in the direction orthogonal to scanning is 10-100 μm (inclusive).
