Abstract:
It is intended to provide a method of inhibiting surgical site infection (SSI) which occurs at an extremely high ratio in surgical operations, in particular, operations on the digestive system and a column therefor. Namely, a method of inhibiting surgical site infection which comprises (a) the step of administering a chemotherapeutic for treating and/or preventing surgical site infection, and (b) the step of collecting the blood from the patient having the surgical operation within 24 hours after the completion of the operation, removing leucocytes including neutrophils from the blood and then returning the leucocyte-free blood into the patient; and a column for blood circulation to be used for inhibiting surgical site infection within 24 hours after the completion of a surgical operation on a digestive organ which is packed with a carrier having an affinity for leucocytes including neutrophils.
