Abstract:
A method of inhibiting vinyl compound polymerization by using a metal dithiocarbamate, wherein water is added to the reaction system in a quantity of 0.05 - 5 wt.% based on the vinyl compound or a compound selected from among alcohols, inorganic acids and salts thereof, aromatic carboxylic acids and salts thereof, and zinc salts is added to the reaction system in a quantity of preferably 0.001 - 5 wt.% based on the vinyl compound. This method makes it possible to inhibit effectively the polymerization of a vinyl compound, particularly acrylic or methacrylic acid, in the distillation step, etc., of the process for producing such a compound and prevent the corrosion of the equipments, thus permitting a continuous operation stably for long.
