Abstract:

A method for ironing spline teeth by axially engaging a die (24 or 28 + 30) having a plurality of ironing working surfaces (28a, 30a) corresponding to an outer periphery of a pressed sheetmetal (1) with a punch having a plurality of ironing working surfaces (32a, 34a) corresponding to an inner peripheral configuration of the pressed sheetmetal (1), thus ironing spline teeth on respective peripheral walls (1b, 1c) of the pressed sheetmetal (1) on which a purality of peripheral walls having different diameters are provided via steps (1a). In this method, the punch is divided into a first punch (32) which cooperates with the die (28) to iron a small diameter peripheral wall (1b) and an outer periphery punch (34) which is disposed on an outer periphery of the punch (32) and cooperates with the die (30) to iron a large diameter peripheral wall (1c) and to descend to and stop at a step (29) of the die, and the first punch (32) and the outer periphery punch (34) are made to descend together to iron the large diameter peripheral wall (1c) and thereafter iron the small diameter peripheral wall (1b) by lowering a pressing force of the outer periphery punch (34) below a pressing force for ironing, so that descending (ironing) of the first punch (32) elongates the small diameter peripheral wall (1b) smoothly in an axial direction and reduces the amount of a material flowing into the step (1a), thereby preventing the formation of any excessively thick portion on the step (1a).
