Abstract:
Provided are: a method for machining the outer circumference of a metal end cross-section, the method being capable of easily forming a uniform deep groove, deep recess and/or flange, which is smooth in the longitudinal direction of a metal rod or metal tube, on the periphery of the cross-section of an end of a metal rod or metal tube, a tapered end of a metal rod or metal tube, or a hub-forming section of a metal tube; and a method for joining a metal part obtained by said machining method with another member. This machining method is characterized in that: cleavage is advanced by successively repeating a press-molding operation multiple times using a cleavage punch, the tip of which has a sharp tool edge with the same shape or partially the same shape as the external form of the metal end cross-section and which is formed with a smaller diameter than the outer diameter of the cross-section; and to control the depth of the metal fissure generated with each press-molding operation, the position of a support die for clamping the outside of a metal rod or at least one of the support dies for clamping the inside and the outside of a metal tube is moved and disposed according to the cleavage distance.
