Abstract:
Provided is a method for manufacturing a magnetic-disk glass blank with outstanding flatness, with the goal of efficiently manufacturing a magnetic-disk glass substrate in which surface unevenness in primary surfaces are suppressed. The present invention is a method for manufacturing a magnetic-disk glass blank with a pair of primary surfaces, comprising the following: a cutting step in which molten glass is supplied from a molten glass supply unit and is cut by the coordinated action of a pair of cutting blades disposed so as to mutually oppose each other, and a mass of molten glass from this cutting is allowed to drop; and a press step in which following the cutting step the mass of molten glass is press-molded by a pair of mold press surfaces in a prescribed press position to form a glass blank. During the period from the cutting step to the press step, the dropping of the molten glass mass is guided so that the initial contact region of the mass with the mold press surface at the press position is constant.
