Abstract:
The concentration distribution of ions to be implanted into the magnetic recording layer of a perpendicular magnetic recording medium is suitably set in the perpendicular direction, corresponding to a layer into which the ions are to be implanted. A method for manufacturing a perpendicular magnetic recording medium (100) includes: a magnetic recording layer forming step wherein a magnetic recording layer (122) is formed on a disc base body (110); a resist layer forming step wherein a resist layer (130) is formed on the magnetic recording layer; a patterning step wherein the thickness of the resist layer is partially changed by processing the resist layer, and a predetermined pattern having a recessed section and a protruding section is formed; and an ion implanting step wherein the ions are implanted into a plurality of layers, including the magnetic recording layer, in the state of having the resist film therebetween. In the ion implanting step, the layer into which the ions are to be implanted is determined by adjusting the quantity of energy to be used for the ion implantation, and the total quantity of the ions to be implanted into each layer is determined by adjusting the time for maintaining the energy quantity.
