Description:
Method for ! manufacturing a ventilation closing plate and a closing plate.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION [0001] The invention relates to a method for manufacturing an air- conditioning system closing plate, the method comprising manufacturing a support structure with an opening having a first sealing surface and arranging in the opening a turnable baffle having a second sealing surface and being turnable to a closed position, in which the turnable baffle is arranged to sub- stantially entirely close the opening and in which the second sealing surface of the baffle is arranged to at least partly touch the first sealing surface of the opening and to at least partly seal a gap between the first and second sealing surfaces.

[0002] The invention also relates to an air-conditioning system clos- ing plate that comprises a support structure with an opening having a first seal- ing surface and in the opening a turnable baffle having a second sealing sur- face and being turnable to a closed position, in which the turnable baffle is ar- ranged to substantially entirely close the opening and in which the second sealing surface of the baffle is arranged to at least partly touch the first sealing surface of the opening and to at least partly seal the gap between the first and second sealing surfaces.

[0003] Numerous air-conditioning system closing plates are previ- ously known, which comprise a support structure with an opening, to which a turnable baffle is arranged. The purpose of the baffle is to tightly close said opening in the support structure during a fire, for instance, in such a manner that fire gases or the like cannot spread in the air-conditioning system or out of it, but the spreading of the gases is stopped at the baffle that closes the open- ing.

[0004] A problem with such a closing plate is the tightness between the baffle and support structure and how to make a closing plate, in which the baffle and support structure can together form such a tight structure that pre- vents fire gases and the like from spreading in the air-conditioning system.

[0005] Another problem is the fastening of the sealing between the first and second sealing surfaces to the baffle. In the prior-art solutions, the sealing is mounted between two parts that are pressed together. The prior-art solutions therefore always require at least two parts for mounting the sealing.

This is a specific problem if the manufacturer makes a great deal of closing plates with different sizes. Different-sized closing plates require different-sized parts and this multiplies the number of required parts. In addition, the joining of the parts takes time.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION [0006] It is thus an object of the invention to develop a method for manufacturing an air-conditioning system closing plate and an air-conditioning system closing plate that solves the above-mentioned problems.

[0007] The object of the invention is achieved by a method and air- conditioning system closing plate that are characterized by what is stated in the independent claims.

[0008] Preferred embodiments of the invention are set forth in the dependent claims.

[0009] One advantage of the solution of the invention is that the second sealing surface can be made to exactly match the first sealing surface.

This results in a tight structure when the baffle is in its closed position. In addi- tion, only a little time is needed to make the baffle, because the sealing is mounted in a groove. This reduces the number of required items by at least half, because the sealing is not mounted between two parts. The sealing groove is easy to make while the second sealing surface is machined in the same machine tool, for instance. The closing plate of the invention can there- fore be made with a smaller number of work stages than the conventional clos- ing plate.

[0010] One advantage of the solution of the invention is that the second sealing surface of the baffle can easily be streamlined using machin- ing, in which case the pressure loss caused by the baffle is small when the baffle is in the open position shown in Figure 2, for instance. Pressure loss oc- curs, because the baffle is in the airflow passing through the opening of the closing plate. The baffle causes turbulence in the airflow, for instance. It is also possible to affect the sound level by means of the shape of the second sealing surface. The baffle causes sound when it is in the airflow. Machining the sec- ond sealing surface of the baffle to be streamlined and to cause less turbu- lence also reduces the sound level caused by the baffle.

[0011] A drilling for a shaft can also preferably, but not necessarily, be machined to the edge of the baffle. More preferably, but not necessarily,

two drilling are machined to the baffle, one drilling diametrically on each side of the baffle. Each drilling preferably, but not necessarily, comprises a bottom.

When the baffle is mounted in place, a spring can then first be placed in each drilling and after this, a shaft. After this, the baffle can be mounted in place in such a manner that the baffle is mounted on the support structure having re- cesses for the shafts and the baffle is positioned so that the shafts installed in the drilling are at the location of the recesses, as a result of which the springs placed in the drilling push the shafts to the recesses. Drillings of this type are easy to make while the second sealing surface of the baffle and the groove are machined.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES [0012] The invention will now be described in greater detail by means of preferred embodiments and with reference to the attached drawings, in which Figure 1 is an air-conditioning system closing plate in a situation, in which the baffle is closed, Figure 2 is an air-conditioning system closing plate in a situation, in which the baffle is open, Figure 3 shows a circular baffle, and Figure 4 is a rectangular baffle.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION [0013] Figures 1 and 2 show an air-conditioning system closing plate that comprises a support structure 1 with an opening (not marked with a reference number) having a first sealing surface 2.

[0014] The air-conditioning system closing plate also comprises a turnable baffle 3 having a second sealing surface 4.

[0015] The turnable baffle 3 can be turned to a closed position, in which the turnable baffle 3 is arranged to substantially entirely close the open- ing and in which the second sealing surface 4 of the baffle 3 is arranged to at least partly touch the first sealing surface 2 of the opening and to at least partly seal a gap 5 between the first sealing surface 2 and the second sealing sur- face 4.

[0016] In this application, the first sealing surface 2 and the second sealing surface 4 refer to the surfaces that are arranged to settle against each other when the baffle 3 closes the gap of the support structure 1.

[0017] The baffle 3 and the opening can have any cross-profile shape. For instance, Figure 3 shows a circular baffle 3 and Figure 4 shows a rectangular baffle 3.

[0018] The second sealing surface 4 of the baffle 3 is at least partly machined to match the first sealing surface 2 of the opening.

[0019] In Figure 3, which shows a circular baffle 3, the second seal- ing surface 4 of the baffle 3 is curved.

[0020] In Figure 4, which shows a rectangular baffle 3, the second sealing surface 4 of the baffle 3 is straight.

[0021] The figures show baffles 3 that are turnable around a shaft 6 in the middle of the baffle 3 in such a manner that on both sides of the baffle 3, there is a second sealing surface 4 arranged to settle against the first sealing surface 2 of the opening.

[0022] In Figures 1 and 2, the cross-profile of the second sealing surface 4 is partly curved, because it is made to match in cross-profile the first sealing surface 2 that is curved in cross-profile. The first sealing surface 2 and the second sealing surface 4 can alternatively have another matching cross- profile shape.

[0023] Figures 1 and 2 show a support structure 1 that is a casing part and comprises elements for connecting the closing plate to other compo- nents (not shown) of the air-conditioning system. An air-conditioning duct (not shown) can be such a component.

[0024] The baffle 3 can at least partly be made of a ceramic mate- rial or calcium silicate.

[0025] A groove 7 for a sealing material 8 can also be machined to the baffle 3, the sealing material 8 being arranged to at least partly settle be- tween the baffle 3 and support structure 1 when the baffle 3 is turned to its closed position.

[0026] A drilling 9 for the shaft 6 can also be machined to the baffle 3, the baffle 3 being turnable around the shaft 6 to its closed position.

[0027] The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing an air-conditioning system closing plate.

[0028] In the method, a support structure 1 with an opening having a first sealing surface 2 is manufactured. A turnable baffle 3 having a second sealing surface 4 is arranged in the opening, the turnable baffle 3 being turn- able to a closed position in which the turnable baffle 3 is arranged to substan-

tially entirely close the opening and in which the second sealing surface 4 of the baffle 3 is arranged to at least partly touch the first sealing surface 2 of the opening.

[0029] In the method, the second sealing surface 4 of the baffle 3 is machined to at least partly match the first sealing surface 2 of the opening.

[0030] In the method, the baffle 3 can be at least partly manufac- tured from a ceramic material or calcium silicate.

[0031] In the method, a groove 7 for a sealing material 8 can also be machined to the baffle 3, the sealing material 8 being arranged to at least partly settle between the baffle 3 and support structure 1 when the baffle 3 is turned to its closed position.

[0032] In the method, a drilling 9 for a shaft 6 can also be machined to the baffle 3, the baffle 3 being turnable around the shaft 6 to its closed posi- tion.

[0033] It is obvious to a person skilled in the art that while the tech- nology advances, the basic idea of the invention can be implemented in many different ways. The invention and its embodiments are thus not restricted to the examples described above, but can vary within the scope of the claims.
