Abstract:
A method for determining the concentration of low molecular weight heparin or heparin in a blood plasma sample comprises the steps of: (a) adding a dilute thromboplastin (or tissue factor) solution to a blood plasma sample; and then (b) measuring the time to clot formation in said blood plasma sample. In one embodiment, the dilute thromboplastin (or tissue factor) solution is diluted prior to the adding step so that the time to clot formation in said blood plasma sample is at least 100 seconds when said blood plasma sample contains at least 1 mu g/ml of low molecular weight heparin.
