Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a method for operating an electrolysis apparatus, which is capable of suppressing deterioration of an electrode under the use of a variable power supply. A method for operating an electrolysis apparatus according to the present invention is characterized by comprising: a current application step wherein electrolysis of an electrolyte solution in a positive electrode chamber having a positive electrode and in a negative electrode chamber having a negative electrode is carried out, said positive electrode chamber and negative electrode chamber being separated from each other by a diaphragm; and a suspension step wherein the electrolysis of the electrolyte solution in the positive electrode chamber and in the negative electrode chamber is suspended. This method is also characterized by having, in the suspension step, a discharge step wherein the electrolytic cell of the electrolysis apparatus is electrically connected to an external load so that the counter voltage is reduced to 0.1 V or less within five hours.
