Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for operating a cooling device (1) on extruding presses, especially for producing profiled billets made of copper or copper alloys, comprising a cooling pipe (3) which connects a water tank (2) located at the discharge point of the extruding press to the opposite bar (5) thereof. There, said cooling pipe (3) ends immediately in front of an extrusion die that is placed downstream of a block-receiving device in the direction of extrusion (9). The cooling pipe (3) encompasses an inner pipe (6) and an outer pipe (8) that concentrically encloses the inner pipe (6) along part of the length in the rear area thereof, which faces the die, so as to form an annular water catchment space (7), said annular water catchment space (7) being connected to the water tank (2) via a feeding conduit (28). A catchment nozzle (12) is assigned to the rear end of the cooling pipe (3). The catchment water-feeding conduit (28) is shut off when the billet (10) begins to be extruded following compression of the block in the receiving device while said conduit (28) is switched to a tank backflow mode, accompanied by opening of a gap (30) of the catchment nozzle (12). Simultaneously, cooling water is delivered in the inner pipe (6) counter (31) to the direction of backflow (32) of the catchment water and the direction of extrusion (9), wherefore the outer pipe (8) is embodied as a sliding pipe and is connected to the catchment nozzle (12) while the inner pipe (6) is provided with at least one counterflow nozzle (18) that is connected to a water inlet (20).
