Abstract:
A fixed bed is prepared by packing a reactor with an acid cation-exchange resin to form a fixed bed and contacting the resultant fixed bed with an aqueous solution containing, dissolved therein, an acid, a nitrogenous sulfur compound, and a ketone or aldehyde to partially neutralize the acid cation-exchange resin. Due to the treatment with the aqueous solution, which contains a ketone or an aldehyde besides an acid and a nitrogenous sulfur compound, the acid cation-exchange resin is partially neutralized evenly throughout the whole fixed bed. By reacting a carbonyl compound with a phenol in the presence of the fixed bed thus prepared, a bisphenol reduced in by-product content can be continuously obtained.
