Abstract:
Provided is a method for producing 7-octenal at high selectivity and a high conversion rate by the isomerization of 2,7-octadien-1-ol. Specifically, provided is a method for producing 7-octenal whereby the following copper-based catalyst precursor is reduced, and a copper-based catalyst is obtained; and 2,7-octadien-1-ol is isomerized in the gas phase by a fixed-bed reaction system in the presence of the copper-based catalyst obtained. Copper-based catalyst precursor: mixture containing copper, iron, aluminum, and calcium silicate, wherein the copper-based catalyst precursor is obtained by firing at 500-1000°C the above mixture containing an atomic ratio of iron and aluminum to copper [(Fe+Al)/Cu] of 1.71-2.5, an atomic ratio of aluminum to iron [Al/Fe] of 0.001-3.3, and 15-65 mass% of calcium silicate.
