Abstract:
The present invention is characterized by comprising a step (hydrogenation step) for reacting 3-hydroxyadipic acid-3, 6-lactone with hydrogen in an aqueous solvent in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst, and is able to produce adipic acid under industrially advantageous conditions (with a high yield, highly soluble starting materials and a single step without use of a toxic reagent) without discharging dinitrogen monoxide.
