Abstract:

The present invention provides a production method which is capable of stably producing a catalyst that enables the achievement of a methacrylic acid with high selectivity. A method for producing a catalyst for the production of a methacrylic acid, said method comprising (i) a step for preparing a slurry A1 which contains a heteropolyacid containing at least phosphorus and molybdenum or a salt of the heteropolyacid, (ii) a step for preparing a slurry A2, which satisfies formula (I) and formula (II), with use of the slurry A1, (iii) a step for preparing a slurry C by mixing the slurry A2 with a starting material liquid B that contains a cation starting material, and (iv) a step for drying the slurry C.　(I): αA2/αA1 ≤ 0.95 (II): 2 ≤ DA2 ≤ 50 (In formula (I), αA1 represents the half-value width (μm) of the particle size distribution of the slurry A1; and αA2 represents the half-value width (μm) of the particle size distribution of the slurry A2. In formula (II), DA2 represents the median diameter (μm) of the particle size distribution of the slurry A2.)
