Abstract:
This method for producing a coated steel material comprises a step for causing cathodic polarization of a steel material having an iron rust layer at the surface thereof in a cation-containing liquid. The iron rust layer contains iron oxyhydroxide, and the cation comprises a cation of at least one metal element selected from the group consisting of Mg, Al, Cr, Ni, Zn, Ca, Sr, and Ba. In the cathodic polarization step, the iron oxyhydroxide is reduced so as to form an iron oxide having a cation-containing Fe3O4 crystalline structure.
