Abstract:
The present disclosure provides a method for producing a glass panel unit intended to make it less likely for gas to remain in the vacuum space. The method for producing a glass panel unit includes an assembly step, a joining step, an exhaust step, a sealing step, and an activation step. The joining step is a step for melting a peripheral wall (410) in a firing furnace of a first predetermined temperature (Tm) and hermetically joining a first glass plate (1) and a second glass plate (2) by the peripheral wall (410) after melting. The exhaust step is a step for evacuating an internal space (510) via an exhaust port (50) in the firing furnace to create a vacuum space (52). The sealing step is a step for melting a hole sealing material (42) or an exhaust pipe (51) by locally heating at a temperature higher than a second predetermined temperature (Ts) to obtain an unfinished product (10) by sealing the exhaust port (50). The activation step is a step for obtaining a glass panel unit (100) by activating a gas adsorbent (44) after the sealing step.
