Abstract:

Disclosed is a method for producing a halogen-substituted benzenedimethanol represented by the formula (2) below, which is characterized in that a diester of a halogen-substituted terephthalic acid represented by the formula (1) below and a boron hydride compound are reacted in an organic solvent in the presence of 0.5-10 moles of water per 1 mole of the boron hydride compound. (1) (In the formula, X1, X2, X3 and X4 independently represent a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom. In this connection, X1, X2, X3 and X4 are not hydrogen atoms at the same time.) (2) (In the formula, X1, X2, X3 and X4 are as defined above.)
