Abstract:
Provided is a method for efficiently producing a liquid composition comprising a monoetherate (III), using a hydroquinone compound (I) and a hydroxyl group-containing etherifying agent (II). The method according to the present invention for producing a liquid composition comprises a step (1) for reacting the hydroquinone compound (I) and hydroxyl group-containing etherifying agent (II) in a two-phase system of an alkaline aqueous solution and a hydrophobic ether solvent, and in the absence of a phase-transfer catalyst and a hydrophilic organic solvent, and a step (2) for separating and removing, by liquid separation, the aqueous phase of the two-phase reaction solution, and washing the organic phase with an aqueous solution containing a neutral inorganic salt and, e.g., the hydroxide of an alkali metal.
