Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a method for producing methionine, the method making it possible to efficiently recover ammonia from a gas evolved by concentrating a mother liquor and utilize the ammonia. The production method includes a recovery step in which a gas evolved in a mother-liquor condensation step is introduced into a gas cleaning tower through which water is being circulated and the gas is brought into contact with the water to recover the ammonia contained in the gas, wherein the ratio of the flow rate of the water being introduced into the gas cleaning tower to the flow rate of the gas being introduced thereinto is 2 or higher in terms of mass ratio. Preferably, the water discharged from the gas cleaning tower is cooled before being introduced into the gas cleaning tower.
