Abstract:
In the present invention, molten iron is produced in an electric furnace at low cost and with high efficiency in terms of energy utilization. Provided is a method of obtaining molten iron m in which, in an electric furnace in which a shaft-type preheating chamber 2 is provided contiguously to an upper part of a melting chamber 1 in order to preheat ferrous scrap x, the ferrous scrap x is preheated by causing exhaust gas produced in the melting chamber 1 to pass through the preheating chamber 2 into which the ferrous scrap x has been filled, and then the preheated ferrous scrap x is caused to successively descend from the inside of the preheating chamber 2 so as to be supplied into the melting chamber 1 and is melted in the melting chamber 1. The ferrous scrap x is charged into the preheating chamber 2 such that the apparent bulk density of the ferrous scrap x filled into the preheating chamber 2 is not less than 0.50 t/m3 but less than 1.00 t/m3 and the ferrous scrap filling ratio HSC/HSF in the preheating chamber 2 is 0.5-0.8. A carbon material is used as an auxiliary heat source for melting the ferrous scrap x in the melting chamber 1, and oxygen and the carbon material are injected into the melting chamber 1 such that the carbon/oxygen ratio C/O is not less than 0.70.
