Abstract:

Provided is a method for producing powdered polyarylene sulfide (PAS) such that impurities such as alkali metal salts and/or PAS oligomers are reduced, and the wettability of the powered PAS in a powdered PAS-containing solid is retained, said solid resulting from solid-liquid separating a separation liquid obtained by separating powdered PAS and said separation liquid from a dispersion liquid containing powdered PAS. Further provided is powdered PAS. This method for producing powdered PAS includes the following steps: (a) a separation step in which powdered PAS and a separation liquid are separated from a dispersion liquid, which contains powdered PAS, by means of solid-liquid separation using at least one screen that has an opening diameter of 75-180 μm; (b) a solid-liquid separation step in which the separation liquid is solid-liquid separated and a solid containing powdered PAS is obtained; (c) a heating step in which the solid containing powdered PAS is heated, thereby reducing the amount of an organic solvent, and a wet cake is obtained; and (d) a washing step in which the wet cake is washed using an aqueous solvent. The water content of the wet cake after the heating step is at least 30 wt%.
