Abstract:
Provided are: a method for producing propylene which makes it possible to use a hydrocarbon starting material having a C4-10 lower olefin as the principal component thereof, and to suppress coking, when producing propylene using a catalyst; and a propylene production catalyst to be used in this method for producing propylene. The method for producing propylene involves producing propylene from a hydrocarbon starting material by using a catalyst. The catalyst is a propylene production catalyst having, as the principal component thereof, a zeolite which is a crystalline aluminosilicate having an 8- to 12-membered ring framework structure and containing iron, or iron and gallium. The hydrocarbon starting material has a C4-10 lower olefin as the principal component thereof.
