Abstract:
The present invention proposes a method that enables achieving of energy conservation and reduction of CO2 emission when producing reduced iron from an iron oxide. This method includes a circulation system in which mutual connections are formed among: an iron oxide loading step for loading an iron oxide in a reduction furnace; a reducing gas blowing step for blowing a reducing gas into the reduction furnace; a reduction step for reducing the iron oxide by the reducing gas in the reduction furnace; a methane synthesis step for synthesizing a gas containing methane as the main ingredient, from hydrogen gas and a portion of furnace top gas discharged from the furnace top of the reduction furnace; and a gas reforming step for using, as a raw material gas, remaining portion of the furnace top gas and the methane, and for reforming the reducing gas by heating the raw material gas. In the method, operation is continued while supplementing carbon, which is depleted during the operation in the circulation system, in one or more steps among the reducing gas blowing step, the reduction step, the methane synthesis step, and the gas reforming step, or at connecting portions between two or more steps among the reducing gas blowing step, the reduction step, the methane synthesis step, and the gas reforming step.
