Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a method for producing selenoneine with which it is possible to produce selenoneine on an industrial scale because selenoneine can be produced at a higher yield than in the prior art. This purpose is achieved by a method for producing selenoneine that includes a step for obtaining selenoneine by subjecting histidine and a selenium compound to the action of a transformant into which a gene that encodes an enzyme of (1) is inserted and which overexpresses the inserted gene. (1) An enzyme that catalyzes a reaction for producing hercynylselenocysteine from histidine and selenocysteine in the presence of S-adenosylmethionine and iron(II)
