Abstract:

Provided is a method for producing a silicon-containing aluminum alloy ingot with which it is possible to prevent filter clogging that requires the suspension of casting, to suppress aluminum loss, and to reduce the content by percentage of phosphorus, which is an impurity in the obtained silicon-containing aluminum alloy ingot. This production method comprises: a selection step for selecting, from among a plurality of silicon masses (12) containing phosphorus as an impurity, silicon masses (12A) that have no visually peculiar parts, which are formed by the superficial aggregation of phosphorus, on the surface by using a selection means; a molten metal formation step for obtaining molten metal by introducing, into a smelting furnace, an alloy material including at least an aluminum material and said silicon masses (12A) which have been selected in said selection step and do not have said visually peculiar parts, and melting said alloy material; and a casting step for obtaining a silicon-containing aluminum alloy ingot by casting the obtained molten metal.
