Title:
METHOD FOR PRODUCING VIRUS-LIKE PARTICLES ON THE BASIS OF POLYOMA VIRUSES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO1999025837
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for producing virus-like particles on the basis of polyoma viruses. The invention can be used in medical fields such as gene therapy, vaccine development and diagnosis as well as in veterinary medicine. The aim of the invention is to develop a method for producing virus-like particles for gene therapy, diagnosis and vaccine development. This method should enable a highly efficient production of non-infectious, endotoxin-free virus-like particles which are suitable for humane applications. The inventive method relates to the application of a yeast high-expression system which permits the production of large quantities of virus-like particles on the basis of the main capsid protein VP1 of polyoma viruses. By extracting said particles from yeast cells, these virus-like particles are endotoxin-free and suitable for humane applications.
