Title:
METHOD FOR PURIFYING DIMETHYL SULFOXIDE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2017/098900
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The present invention is a method for purifying dimethyl sulfoxide, comprising distilling a dimethyl sulfoxide-containing liquid in an inert gas atmosphere in the presence of sodium carbonate to distil out dimethyl sulfoxide, wherein the amount of sodium carbonate relative to 100 g of pure dimethyl sulfoxide in a liquid residue after the distillation is 6 times or greater the amount of sodium carbonate relative to 100 g of pure dimethyl sulfoxide in a dimethyl sulfoxide-containing liquid before the distillation.
In the method for purifying dimethyl sulfoxide according to the present invention, the degree of decomposition of dimethyl sulfoxide is reduced in a distillate (a main distillate and a previous distillate) after the distillation, as well as a liquid residue after the distillation. Because the degree of decomposition of dimethyl sulfoxide is reduced in a liquid residue after the distillation as well as a liquid during the distillation, it becomes possible to produce dimethyl sulfoxide with high purity by distillation.
