Title:
METHOD FOR REDUCING PEAK-TO-AVERAGE RATIO OF MULTI-CARRIER UNDERWATER ACOUSTIC COMMUNICATION SYSTEM BY USING IMPROVED COMPANDING TRANSFORM AT RECEIVING END
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2020/061833
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for reducing the peak-to-average ratio of a multi-carrier underwater acoustic communication system by using an improved companding transform at a receiving end, and aims to prevent the orthogonality between sub-carriers of an OFDM system from being impacted by clipping distortion generated by an underwater acoustic power amplifier operating in a non-linear region caused by excessive peak signal power, which in turn impacts the bit error rate of the entire communications system. The invention relates to the field of underwater acoustic communications, and relates to a companding transform method for reducing the peak-to-average ratio (PAPR) of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) underwater acoustic communication systems. The present invention improves the companding transform method at a transmission end and a receiving end, respectively, and so reduces the impact thereof on the bit error rate of systems. Simulation results in an underwater environment indicate that when a signal-to-noise ratio is 20 dB, the bit error rate of an underwater acoustic system using the improved companding transform method is lower than conventional companding transform methods by an order of 10-1, thereby providing evidence that the improvement method is applicable to the field of underwater acoustics in a complex channel environment.
