Abstract:
A method of removing chloroform contained in 1,1,1,2,2-pentafluoro-3,3-dichloropropane (R-225ca), 1,1,2,2,3-pentafluoro-1,3-di-chloropropane (R-225cb), or a mixture thereof by the reaction of the chloroform with chlorotrifluoroethylene and difluorochloromethane in the presence of anhydrous aluminum chloride or anhydrous aluminum chloride fluoride. This method facilitates the removal of chloroform contained as an impurity in R-225ca and/or R-225cb by reaction and minimizes the loss of R-225ca and/or R-224cb accompanying the rectification conducted in order to prepare pure R-225's.
