Title:
METHOD FOR RESTORING HUMIDITY DAMAGED ORGANIC FIBROUS MATERIAL AND ARTICLES MADE OF SAID MATERIALS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2005/068924
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The invention relates to restoring library holdings and museum exhibits made of capillary-porous materials and damaged during flooding, in particular books. The inventive method consists in placing a pre-frozen restorable object in a working chamber and in cyclically drying said object by a sublimation process. Each cycle consists in producing a vacuum in said working chamber and in heating the walls thereof to a specified temperature, in supplying a dry airflow to the chamber and increasing the pressure therein, additionally carrying out the high-frequency heating of the object and afterwards, in switching off said high-frequency heating, stopping the air supply and in re-creating a vacuum in the working chamber. In each cycle, a book is heated in such a way that the temperature thereinside is equal or less than 0 °C- +1 °C. Drying is over when the temperature attains, during the whole cycle, values which are greater than 0 °C. Said invention makes it possible to uniformly drying objects and prevent the shape and structure thereof.
