A method for running an application, and an electronic device, which relate to the technical field of terminals, and can more efficiently and intelligently supervise the use of applications by a user, so as to avoid the problem of the user being addicted to various applications. The method comprises: an electronic device displaying a first interface, wherein the first interface is an interface which is displayed after a target application is started; if the electronic device determines that a running duration of the target application is greater than or equal to a duration threshold value, the electronic device prompting a user to input a voice password, wherein the voice password is randomly generated by the target application; and if the electronic device determines, according to the voice password that is input by the user, that the user is a target user, the target application exiting, and the electronic device displaying a second interface, wherein the second interface is an interface which is displayed by the electronic device after the target application exits.
