Abstract:
A method for synthesizing an aryl benzyl thioether compound using photocatalysis. By using the iron (III) complex [HIMXy Me][FeBr 4]([HIMXy Me]=l,3-bis(4-methoxy-2,6-dimethylphenyl)-4,5-dimethylimidazolium cation) as a catalyst, fac-Ir(ppy) 3(ppy=2-phenylpyridyl) as a photosensitizer, and DTBP (di-tert-butyl peroxide) as an oxidizing agent, a corresponding aryl benzyl thioether compound is synthesized by means of an oxidation, dehydrogenation and coupling reaction of a thiophenol compound with a toluene compound in the mere presence of visible light. The synthesis of the aryl benzyl thioether compound realized by the activation of an S-H bond and a C-H bond by the iron-based catalyst under illumination conditions can be smoothly carried out at room temperature; meanwhile, the iron (III) complex used has a clear structure and air stability, and the starting materials used in the reaction are cheap and readily available, which is conducive to large-scale synthesis application.
