Abstract:
A method of synthesizing glass microparticles, said method including discharging a glass feedstock gas from a central feedstock gas port in a jacketed pipe burner having a plurality of gas ports, as well as discharging a flame-forming gas from a plurality of gas ports outside the central feedstock gas port, and pyrolyzing the glass feedstock gas in the flames formed by the flame-forming gas so as to synthesize glass microparticles, wherein a projection is formed on the gas-discharge-side end surface of the jacketed pipe burner downstream of the central feedstock gas port, and the glass microparticles are synthesized by discharging the flame-forming gas from at least one gas port located to the inside of the projection at a flow rate V2 that is 0.3 to 1.0 times the flow rate V1 of the gas discharged from the central feedstock gas port.
