Title:
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR ACTUATING A VARIABLE SPEED ELECTRIC ENGINE FOR A COMPRESSOR, VARIABLE CAPACITY COMPRESSOR AND REFRIGERATION SYSTEM
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2010/048684
Kind Code:
A2
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a technique for increasing the energy efficiency of refrigeration systems equipped with a frequency inverter. This technique, known as complementary pulse-width modulation (PWM), actuates the lower active switch, which is complementary to the previously opened switch, causing the freewheel current from the inverter to circulate through the MOSFET channel instead of through the freewheel diode junction, in which higher conduction losses occur. One of the embodiments of the invention is a complementary pulse-width modulation method in a refrigeration system comprising a variable speed electric motor (10) controlled by a bridge inverter (11) actuated by a pulse-width modulated signal, pulse-width modulation being carried out in two stages, and the lower active MOSFET switch, which is complementary to the previously opened switch, being intentionally activated in the second stage, in which the freewheel current circulates, such as to reduce conduction losses of the freewheel current and thus increase the overall efficiency of the refrigeration system.
