A method and system for selecting a gateway node and a correlative device thereof are provided. In the solution of the present invention, when a user uses the user equipment (UE) access the General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) network which supports both the 2nd Generation/3rd Generation (2G/3G) access and the Long Term Evolution (LTE) access, and when a Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN) determines that the user supports the use of the LTE service, the Packet Data Network Gateway (PGW) is selected as the gateway node. Applying the solution of the present invention enables that the Gn/Gp SGSN can identify the service using authority of the user correctly by adding the information whether the user is allowed to use the LTE service into the subscriber profile data in the Home Location Register (HLR) and checking the subscriber profile data by the Gn/Gp SGSN, and consequently the problem of unlawfully using LTE service by the 2G/3G user using the dual-mode UE which supports both the 2G/3G access and the LTE access is solved. Additionally, an overall and prefect solution for selecting a gateway node is provided, and it can select the most suitable gateway node for various users.
