Title:
METHOD OF THERMOCHEMICAL DECOMPOSITION OF WATER
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2004020330
Kind Code:
A9
Abstract:
A method of sustainable thermal decomposition of water for forming hydrogen and oxygen, which comprises a cycle constituted of (A) thermally decomposing an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxide so as to form hydrogen and an oxide having an abnormal oxidation number, and (B) reacting said oxide having an abnormal oxidation number with water to form a metal hydroxide and oxygen, wherein the metal hydroxide is carried on a porous carrier such as aluminosilicic acid. The method comprising the above cycle can ulilize a heat source of a low temperature with better efficiency as compared to that using a conventional cycle, and also is free from the formation of a by-product having adverse effect on the environment and uses no corrosive material.
