A method to prevent getting lost and a terminal device. The is applied to a server (1); the server (1) communicates with a terminal device (2); the terminal device (2) comprises a primary device (24) and a secondary device (25), the primary device (24) wirelessly communicating with the secondary device (25). The method comprises: upon acquisition of an alarm signal from the primary device (24), acquiring feature information concerning a second user of the secondary device (25); acquiring the position of the primary device (24) when the primary device (24) gives an alarm; determining a target monitored area according to the current position; acquiring image information within the target monitored area by means of a camera apparatus (3) communicating with the server (1); searching for the second user according to the image information within the target monitored area and the feature information concerning the second user, and determining position information concerning the second user.
