Abstract:
A method and a wireless communication system for handling offloading of data radio bearers (DRBs) served by a long term evolution (LTE) carrier to a wireless local area network (WLAN) carrier served by a WLAN is described. The method includes exchanging control plane signaling by an LTE node with a WLAN termination (WT) node, to establish at least one general packet radio service (GPRS) tunneling protocol user plane (GTP-U) tunnel for offloading at least one DRB of at least one user equipment (UE) to the WLAN carrier, wherein an offloaded DRB is assigned an LTE quality of service (QoS) parameter by the LTE node, mapping, by one of the LTE node and the WT node, the LTE QoS parameter assigned to the offloaded DRB to a WLAN QoS parameter for buffering each data packet received on the offloaded DRB, and receiving, by the WT node, data packets of the offloaded DRB through at least one GTP-U tunnel associated with the offloaded DRB.
