Abstract:
Methods and materials for identifying and/or treating mammals (e.g., humans) as having vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (V1TT) are provided herein. In some cases, the methods and materials provided herein can be used to differentiate between VITT and spontaneous heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (s-HIT). Specifically, the method comprising contacting the sample from a mammal that (i) has thrombocytopenia, and/or thrombosis, and (ii) does not have heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) with an uncomplexed platelet factor 4 (PF4) polypeptide for detection.
